Reduce. Reuse. Recycle: The Smarter Way to Do Content Marketing

Recycling for Easier Content Marketing

TL;DR: Content takes time and energy to create, but it doesn’t have to be a one-and-done effort. By repurposing posts, videos, and blogs across multiple platforms and formats, you can extend your reach, save time, and make your content work harder for you.

We all know the mantra: Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Most of the time, we think of it as an environmental reminder. But it’s just as relevant to your marketing strategy as it is to your recycling bin.

Today, while scrolling LinkedIn, I noticed someone doing something simple but brilliant. One of the people I follow took a thread they had already shared on X/Bluesky and turned it into a carousel here on LinkedIn. Same content, different format, but a new audience. That’s content recycling at its best — maximizing impact without multiplying effort.

The Hidden Power of Repurposing

Content takes work. A blog post isn’t just writing—it’s research, editing, optimization, design. A video isn’t just hitting record, it’s scripting, filming, editing, uploading, and promoting.

But here’s the payoff: once you’ve created that piece of content, you don’t need to use it once and walk away. Repurposing lets you squeeze every ounce of value out of your effort.

We did this ourselves recently with a WordPress tutorial video. It looked like this:

• Uploaded the full video to YouTube, optimized for search.
• Transformed it into a keyword-rich blog post with the video embedded.
• Cut a short version for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Reels, and LinkedIn.
• Packaged it as an email for clients.
• Added it to our training library.

That’s one video, five different uses, and five different audiences. All from a single two-hour investment.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

You don’t need to constantly create new material from scratch. Instead, think about how to reshape and reframe what you’ve already made.

• A LinkedIn post can become a carousel.
• A blog can become a newsletter.
• A video can become a dozen shorts.
• A podcast can turn into social snippets or quotes.

The point isn’t to recycle content mindlessly. It’s to adapt it for the format and audience that makes sense, so your ideas keep working for you long after you hit publish.

Keep the Cycle Going

Content creation is hard. Repurposing makes it easier. One idea, reshaped across multiple platforms, can unlock reach, save you time, and build a stronger omnichannel presence.

Reduce the workload. Reuse your best ideas. Recycle them into new formats. That’s how you create smarter marketing without burning out.
