Federal News Network is a Washington, DC broadcast radio station whose website serves as the publication platform for federal government news journalism, podcasts, and features. E11 Group produced a brand-new, fully re-architected, fully redesigned website to replace a legacy platform that was buckling under the volume of content the newsroom publishes daily.

The Challenge

The existing site suffered from an outdated design and a user experience that could not keep pace with the volume and variety of content a daily newsroom produces. Journalists, editors, and producers all relied on a CMS that made publishing harder than it needed to be. Stakeholder interviews revealed that engagement, time on page, and search visibility had all plateaued or declined.

What We Did

Stakeholder interviews and audience research drove a ground-up redesign focused on four measurable outcomes: higher engagement, longer time on page, better search visibility, and a CMS that editorial staff could actually work with at newsroom speed. The rebuild included a new information architecture, responsive templates for articles, podcasts, and features, and an administrative backend rebuilt around the editorial workflow.
